Buitenverwachting Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot, South Africa 2018
Buitenverwachting Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is bright, stylish aromas of cassis, plums and pencil lead give way to a complex, structured palate that marries ripe fruit with mineral nuance, with a well-tuned, fragrant finish.
These grapes come from Buitenverwachting’s cool estate vineyards in Constantia, and were harvested from early March.Fermentation and maceration on skins lasted for twenty-one days. The wine was aged for twenty-four months in second and third-fill French oak barrels, where it also underwent malolactic fermentation.
This beautiful farm on the east-facing slopes of the magnificent Constantia berg and barely 12km from False Bay, originally formed part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa.
